NORTH AMERICAN PREMIERE
His homeland’s answer to classic horror anthologies like CREEPSHOW, producer/director Lex Ortega’s 2014 brainchild MEXICO BARBARO empowered eight Mexican filmmakers to get as wild as possible. With this even sicker follow-up, Ortega has corralled nine new shorts that consistently one up each other in the WTF department, featuring ghosts from Tijuana’s past, urban legends, a homemade porno gone horribly wrong, and a flesh-eating family.
As evidenced by our 2016 centerpiece film WE ARE THE FLESH, Mexico’s horror scene is churning out some of the genre’s most extreme content. The first MEXICO BARBARO sparked that narrative; MEXICO BARBARO II both confirms that truth and injects proverbial genre heroin into its bloodstream. Ranging from disturbing psychological horror to blood-and-guts-laden anarchy, MEXICO BARBARO II is the horror omnibus format at its relentless best. —Matt Barone
